Abstract

CITIES is a model of Web-based sales services whose main goal is, besides that of offering the usual functionality of an on-line sale service, to supply the necessary mechanisms for the creation of a new shop or set of shops integrated in a mall.

CITIES supports basic concepts such as the virtual shopping cart, secure payment methods, client registration and identification and communication to providers. In addition, it supports advanced features such as: shop design from scratch; a flexible page layout (change the look of the shop leaving the functionality untouched); multilingual support; event registry (a tool for tracing accesses, transactions and to generate reports and statistics); a flexible navigation schema; multimedia support for those products which may require it and HTML 3.0 generation for high compatibility with browsers.

This work is illustrated using a prototype called AsturShop as a case study of how CITIES can be applied to a real business.
